The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) claimed that they have
successfully captured an Iranian drone. ISIS twitter account has been
posting photos of the unmanned aircraft, claiming that it was shot down
in the Iraqi province of Diyala.
"The drone shown in the photos is 100 percent not US or NATO sourced," said Christopher Harmer, an analyst with the Institute for the Study of War. "[It] looks very similar to an Iranian Mohajer-4," he added.
Iran has played a central role in Iraq since before ISIS's emergence. The country has been helping Shia military operations inside the country. Iranian drones, alongside those of the United States and other members of the American-led coalition, have been patrolling Iraqi skies since summer.
