Philippine Navy to recruit 4,000 troops

The Philippine Navy announced on Wednesday that it is recruiting 4,000 new members in the next two years.

Navy spokesman Lt. Cmdr. Gregory Gerald Fabic said the Navy needs additional personnel to man new ships being acquired by the Philippine government as part of its modernization program.

The Philippine Department of National Defense is in the process of acquiring two brand new frigates and two strategic sealift vessels.

Fabic said the enlistment of 4,000 Navy personnel is part of the 20,000 additional soldiers whom the Armed Forces of the Philippines is planning to recruit in the next three years.
