Army of China Has Deployed New Designed Tank Type 99G During Military Exercise

Chinese army uses a new designed main battle tank, the Type 99G during military exercise held by the the Shenyang Military Region near the border between China and North Korea in December 2013. 

The ZTZ99G has newly designed features and active protection system (APS). The new tank is larger with an autonomous commander thermal imaging viewer. The electro-optical countermeasures devices have been replaced by a new design.

 As the latest version of Type 99, the 125mm gun of the Type 99G is capable of penetrating the armor of modern tanks used by Western militaries, including the British Challenger and US M1. The Chinese tank also has better ammunition and longer range than the 

Russian-built T-72, as well as a better fire control system for the crew according to military people.

The Chinese Army has yet to reveal details of the tank, however Chinese TV said the Type 99G was deployed as part of a military exercise held between the region of the Changbai mountain and Heilongjiang river — only 220 kilometers away from North Korea's Sinuiju Special Administrative Region. 


Chinese authorities also declared that no civilian vessels were allowed to enter the waters of the Bohai Strait and northern part of the Yellow Sea between Jan. 10-17 due to the exercise.

 The Type 99 tank is armed with a fully-stabilized ZPT98 125-mm smoothbore gun, fitted with an automatic loader. The Type 99 main battle tank can also fire anti-tank guided missiles, fired in the same manner as ordinary projectiles.

 The Type 99 has a crew of three, including commander, gunner and driver.

 Type 99G is a modernized variant of the Type 99. It has a number of improvements as a new fire control, targeting and countermeasures systems.
