A ceremony to mark the first steel cutting of RMN’s LCS was conducted
at the IHC Metalix plant in Kinderdijk, Holland on Dec 3, 2014.
A release at the TLDM website stated that the ceremony were performed
by RMN’s Fleet Operations Commander, Vice Admiral Datuk Mohamad Roslan
Mohamad Ramli and Defence Ministry Procurement Division secretary, Datuk
Zaiton binti Johari.
Also present were Finance Ministry representative, Mr Nur Muhammad Che Dan, RMN’s LCS project team leader, Kept Ir Azhar Jumaat TLDM and BNS LCS programme director, Mr Anuar Murad.
According to the release, the first steel cutting marked the start of the shipbuilding process. In the traditional ship building manufacturing, keel laying marked the start of the shipbuilding process. In the new modern block method of shipbuilding, steel cutting marked the start.
The release added, after the steel cutting which were based on engineering drawing, the steel kits will be sent to Malaysia for welding into module blocks.
